What a movie MUST BE

Hello people....

When I am looking for a book to read, a movie to watch or a documentary to check out, I have very simple criteria to base my decision to engage on. If based on the synopsis or trailer, I can say it hits one or more of these check points, I'm in:

Insightful, funny, educational, inspirational, reassuring, thought provoking or format bending (turns the film making process on its ass...a la Terrence Malick).

Below are a few flicks that hit the marks and excel in their category.....

+1: Format bending...I don't know what the budget was, but it was a pretty complicated script and required some matrix like approaches to the storytelling. In addition, the lighting and music was super on point. Worthy!

Special: Insightful. The movie is a bit of a stretch. The main character, Les, decides to participate in drug testing and the doctors "office" and setting were pretty ghetto. There was never a nurse present and you kind of felt like he was packing for a midnight move! That being said, after applying complete and total suspension of disbelief, it was a very good story about sadness, popping too many pills and perspective on life. Totally worth watching.
